Post-event Summary: Sustainable Purchasing & Communication


On 14 April 2016, MPI Belgium celebrated the first ever Global Meetings Industry Day in the citycenter of Brussels. The day started out with our Meetings Go Green workshop on sustainable purchasing & zero-waste communication. During the afternoon, our focus shifted to the topic of communication on a larger scale.

Prevention is better than cure. Reusable, edible or biodegradable plates and cups, recycled packaging … Our third “Meetings Go Green” workshop explored how to create and implement sustainable purchasing decisions to reduce the negative environmental impact of your events.

The implementation of a greener purchasing programme reduces the burden on the environment, while at the same time benefiting your business by reducing costs. It’s also great CSR, you give attendees “green” products and environmentally conscious businesses.

Six months left – full speed ahead!


Dear members,
Dear partners,
Dear supporters of MPI Belgium Chapter,
Please allow me to kick off by wishing you all a very happy and healthy 2016!

Six years went by since I first joined an MPI board meeting. Today we enter the last six months of my Presidency. It seems right when they say ‘time flies when you have fun’.

I remember the first slide of my first meeting as a President saying: ‘Volunteers are not paid –not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless’. A quote I still strongly believe in.

The strength and success of our Chapter lies in the hands of our leaders who work determinedly to make a difference within our industry. And that’s what those people are doing every single day again.

Six months left, no time to look back but rather full speed ahead!

A new season means a new team. Young talent in combination with experience – stay tuned!

Post-event Summary: Circular Economy (Meetings Go Green)


Our first “Meetings Go Green” workshop briefed participants on the circular economy. We brought best practices to showcase how you can choose eco-designed material while not producing any waste, as well as how to give a second life to your waste while minimizing – or even reducing – costs!

This workshop was held at Martin’s Brussels EU. The venue is known for its best practices when it comes to ‘being green’, and their commitment to several Environmental Management Systems (EMAS, ISO14001, Eco-dynamic Enterprise label and Green Key).

Meetings Go Green: Workshop Calendar


MPI Belgium is providing meeting professionals with education on sustainability and waste reduction. Our effort to advocate for reducing the meeting industryb s environmental impact is supported by Bruxelles Environment – Leefmilieu Brussel, in partnership with 21 Solutions and Yuzu Events.

To meet the challenge of sustainability in the meetings industry, MPI organises four workshops to introduce meeting professionals to material and organic waste reduction, smart food management choices, making informed purchasing decisions and revising communication strategies.

Participants can join per workshop, or purchase entry to all four workshops at a preferred rate (50 EUR discount).

Hosting our first “Healthcare Forum” on September 21 in Brussels


MPI Belgium, the local chapter of Meeting Professionals International, announced it will host its first Healthcare Forum on September 21, 2015, at the Hilton Brussels Grand Place. The event will bring together meeting industry professionals and experts active in the healthcare sectors.




“We are very excited to host the Healthcare Forum as the first event of the 2015-2016 year,” said Mieke Barbé, who took on the role as VP Education in July. “This event will allow meeting professionals to learn about the latest issues and opportunities facing the healthcare sectors. Attendees will have an opportunity to engage and interact with colleagues and experts on hot topics, at a prime location in Brussels opposite Central Station and next to the Grand Place.”

Presentations and discussions will explore healthcare compliance and how to create synergy between planners, agencies and suppliers. “We’re working together with Cyriel Kortleven to maximize interactivity at the Healthcare Forum. Cyriel breathes creativity and innovation, participants will go home with new ideas on how to make meetings more interactive,” explained Mieke Barbé.

The opening keynote by Pat Schaumann (MPI International) ‘Breaking the Code to Healthcare Compliance‘, followed by a quick tour of David Schenberg’s (BusyEvent) ‘My Compliance Wizzard‘ will provide delegates with a fast-track course healthcare compliance. Pat Durocher (Global Cynergies) will attack meeting industry trends and contract negotiations, followed by Geert Behets (UCB) who will shed light on issues medical planners face and the opportunities there are for suppliers.

The Healthcare Forum is also the ideal moment to get introduced to the Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate (HMCC), which has been awarded to over 200 meeting and event professionals in the first half of 2015. Those registering for the Forum will also enjoy a discount when purchasing the HMCC’s textbook “Breaking the Code to Healthcare Compliance’”.
